What is the best Sprinter for conversion?

The best Mercedes Sprinter for conversion depends on your needs and budget. However, some of the most popular Sprinters for conversion include:

  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500. This is the most popular Sprinter for conversion, and it offers a good balance of size, features, and price. It has a 3.0L V6 diesel engine that gets up to 22 mpg on the highway, and it can tow up to 7,500 lbs.
  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4×4. This is a more rugged option that is perfect for off-road adventures. It has a 4.0L V6 diesel engine that gets up to 19 mpg on the highway, and it can tow up to 7,700 lbs.
  • 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger. This is a great option if you plan on converting your Sprinter into a camper van for families or groups. It has a long wheelbase that offers plenty of space for sleeping, dining, and lounging.

No matter which Sprinter you choose, you’re sure to end up with a reliable and versatile vehicle that can be converted into your dream camper van.

Here are some other factors to consider when choosing a Mercedes Sprinter for conversion:

  • Wheelbase: The wheelbase of the Sprinter will affect the amount of interior space you have to work with. A longer wheelbase will give you more space, but it will also be more difficult to manoeuvre.
  • Engine: The engine of the Sprinter will affect its fuel economy and towing capacity. If you plan on doing a lot of off-road driving, you’ll want to choose a Sprinter with a 4×4 drivetrain and a more powerful engine.
  • Budget: The price of a Mercedes Sprinter can vary depending on the model, features, and mileage. If you’re on a tight budget, you may want to consider a used Sprinter.

Once you’ve chosen a Mercedes Sprinter for conversion, you can start planning your dream camper van. There are many different ways to convert a Sprinter, so you can customise it to fit your needs and budget. With a little planning, you can create a comfortable and stylish camper van that you’ll love to travel in.

How much does it cost to convert a Sprinter to a camper van?

The cost of converting a Sprinter to a camper van will vary depending on the features you want, the materials you use, and the amount of involvement you have yourself. However, a general rule of thumb is that it will cost between £5,000 and £20,000 to convert a Sprinter into a camper van. I recently publshed a rough guide on the cost of a DIY camper conversion here.

Here is a breakdown of some of the costs involved in converting a Sprinter to a camper van:

  • Van: The cost of the van will vary depending on the model, year, and mileage. However, you can expect to pay between £10,000 and £20,000 for a used Sprinter that is in good condition.
  • Materials: The cost of materials will vary depending on the features you want to include in your camper van. However, you can expect to pay between £1,000 and £5,000 for materials such as insulation, flooring, cabinets, and furniture.
  • Labour: If you hire someone to convert your Sprinter, you can expect to pay between £1,000 and £10,000 for labour. However, if you do the conversion yourself, you can save a significant amount of money.

Here are some of the features that can affect the cost of converting a Sprinter to a camper van:

  • Size: The size of your camper van will affect the amount of materials you need and the complexity of the build. A larger camper van will be more expensive to convert than a smaller camper van.
  • Features: The features you want to include in your camper van will also affect the cost. For example, if you want a solar power system, a water heater, or a fridge, you will need to pay more for the conversion.
  • Level of finish: The level of finish you want will also affect the cost. If you want a high-quality camper van with a polished finish, you will need to pay more for the conversion.

If you are on a budget, there are a few things you can do to save money on your Sprinter conversion:

  • Buy a used Sprinter. Used Sprinters are often much cheaper than new Sprinters.
  • Do the conversion yourself. If you are handy, you can save a significant amount of money by doing the conversion yourself.
  • Choose simple features. If you choose simple features, you will save money on the conversion.

No matter how much you spend, converting a Sprinter to a camper van can be a rewarding experience. With a little planning and effort, you can create a comfortable and stylish camper van that you’ll love to travel in.
